Piper Archer II PA28
The Piper Archer is an excellent alternative to the 172 for students and private pilots who prefer a low-wing craft. The Archer is a prominent member of Piper's Cherokee family of aircraft, of which over 32,000 have been built since the design was first introduced back in 1960:

It's advisable for students to try both high-wing and low-wing aircraft early on in their training. Some students find they have a strong affinity for one or the other. Some students are equally comfortable in either. Because of the immense popularity of both the high-wing Cessna 172 and low-wing Piper Cherokee families, experience in both is a huge plus later on for any Private Pilot who plans to rent rather than own.

Students planning to continue beyond Private Pilot are especially encouraged to begin building time in the Archers because the Piper family of aircraft provides a learning path with easy transitions. Our Archers have been equipped with Instrument training in mind. After that, a pilot's usual next step is into complex aircraft. Our Piper Arrow, another member of the Cherokee family, is immediately familiar-looking to any student who is already comfortable with the Archers... the only significant differences being those differences which are the focus of the complex training: retractable landing gear and a variable pitch prop. Likewise, our Piper Seneca, despite the extra engine, has a cabin layout very much like that of the Archers... only with two throttles, two mixtures, etc.
